WE THE PEOPLE — SHEPARD FAIREY “PROTECT EACH OTHER” as seen on my neighbor’s fence

I wrote this story in 2017, but in light of current events, it feels like it was destined to arrive in this, the present time. My short story is an allegory, wherein each character in a simple plot serves to illustrate a larger story, with a much broader scope. Consider the legacy of a single human family to illustrate the complexities that are at work in our current world, especially the divides concerning race, power, and entitlement. I wrote it in hopes of healing the relationships in our human family by acknowledging the damage done and exposing the true enemies.....evil…

I am sitting here once again trying to wrap my brain around some of the nonsense going on in relation to the upcoming election. While I am not one, I actually have many friends and family that I love that are Trump supporters….and frankly it is getting more and more difficult to watch as the days, minutes, and seconds count down to this cataclysmic and defining moment.

First of all, many of the most loving, kind hearted people I know claim that saving babies from being aborted is their sole motivation in their devotion to Trump. (As a side note, I doubt he cared that fetal tissue was used to create his Regeneron “cure”.) Priorities…

Let me be clear — I am not pro-abortion. I think it is one of the saddest things that takes place in our world. There are a multitude of issues concerning children that make me equally sad…children being murdered by their parents (an everyday occurrence in today’s world). Children being tortured, neglected…

My Life in Quotes

I came across this quote some years ago and put it on my Facebook page. At the time it gave me comfort thinking of a place where the sadness and pain of this world didn’t exist. The idea of peace, contentedness, joy, love ongoing forever and ever….a balm to my troubled spirit.

During that time, I was going through some issues with being taken for granted by one person, and rejection by another…someone I liked, didn’t like me. It was…

Artificial Intelligence has already affected our thinking and freedom to choose….

Smart phones, Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, Apple, Twitter, Mozilla, Firefox, Pinterest….just a few technology companies/products that are run via background algorithms that are intended to manipulate and persuade their users….

I’ve been in the high school classroom for the last 20 years….first as a para, then for 14 years as a teacher until I retired this year…3 years early due to health issues and the threat of covid to my already less than perfect lungs. Even though the scary virus pushed me over the edge, I wanted to stop…

“Whoever is happy will make others happy, too.” — Anne Frank

— one of my most revered historical figures and writers wrote this. If Anne Frank could make this statement, I believe we can stretch ourselves to be happy in almost every circumstance…and live a more quality life as a result.

I can be happy that I am hungry right now because I have food in the kitchen. I can be happy with my age because it means I have made it this far. I can be happy in traffic — I have a car. I can be happy that I am going to the dentist (I know, really stretching it here) — I have teeth. You get the picture, but let’s go farther.

I think we can agree that happy people are the best! I want to be around happy people. Happy people make me happy. They pull me up…

Remember the public service announcements from Smokey the Bear? Only You can Prevent Forest Fires…..Well parents, this is your public service announcement: Only You can Prevent Temper Tantrums and future anger management classes for your child.

It seems that many people have difficulty containing their anger. I am one of those people. I have a temper that flares very quickly…..explodes, then subsides as quickly as it arrived. Nonetheless, words are spoken….feelings are hurt. As I age, my temper flares less often….I have mellowed, but there is always room for improvement. …

Fake News vs. A Truth as Old as Time….

Wait a minute….that’s the theme song from Beauty and the Beast…..

I am a high school teacher. Frankly, it is an all consuming job, mentally, physically, emotionally. I’ve had to be tough, fair, and entertaining. I know I have fallen short many days, but I think I held my own most days. I know I did better than the complaining, judgy, know-it-all trolls on social media platforms would have done. …

Matthew Brodeur from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver

Today, I am writing about annoyance…..How often are you annoyed in a day’s span? Many times, I would guess. Does everyone need to know…..maybe. It could be like a dog’s growl, a warning that you are going to blow. Or are you able to talk yourself down from that ledge? Do you have any self control? I will be the first to say, “Not always.” I fail in this area too, but I would like for you to consider a few things the next time you get angry at a seemingly idiotic stranger…

Let’s examine……while driving your car, someone is…
